Hello awesome reader! We are in another month of summer, and that means we get to introduce you to another incredible Owl Hollow author! This month, we’re bringing the fantastic MG wordsmith, Ron Walters. His stories are full of adventure, whimsy,  and non stop fun ideal for any age. Keep reading to find out more.

Meet Ron

Ron Walters is a former journalist, college registrar, and stay-at-home dad who writes science fiction and fantasy for all ages. A native of Savannah, GA, he currently lives in Germany with his wife, two daughters, and two rescue dogs. When he's not writing he works as a substitute high school teacher, plays video games, and does his best to ignore the judgmental looks his dogs give him for not walking them more often.

Even with all of the amazing things Ron is doing in ‘real life’ he’s managed to find time to write two awesome books for our Owl Hollow catalog. CALIX AND THE FIRE DEMON, a Middle Grade Fantasy, and his upcoming release RUST BUCKET, a thrilling Middle Grade SciFi adventure! We’ll tell you more about them below!

Calix and the Fire Demon

If there’s one thing 12-year-old Calix O’Shaughnessy is good at, it’s bad luck.

Divorced parents? Check. Eyebrows singed off after an unfortunate grilling incident? Check. Accidentally releasing an ancient Irish fire demon from the statue where it was imprisoned by St. Patrick 1,500 years ago? Check and check.

Now the demon’s on the loose, tearing through Savannah, GA, and it’s up to Calix to take it down whether he wants to or not. Because it turns out, not only are fairies, monsters, and demigods real, but Calix is one of the heirs of St. Patrick, tasked with ridding the world of supernatural threats.

Left with no other choice, Calix, his cousin, and his best friend follow a series of cryptic clues around Savannah in order to retrieve the pieces of an ancient Irish weapon known as the Demon’s Bane, the only thing capable of defeating the demon. If they fail, the creature will raise an army of malevolent spirits and bathe the world in unholy fire.

All of a sudden, regular old bad luck doesn’t seem so bad after all.

Rust Bucket

Thirteen-year-old Jackson Abernathy knows there are two things you need to survive in space: a solid ship and a good crew.

Okay, so he and his crew are a bunch of misfit orphans who scavenge wrecks around the asteroid belt to make ends meet. And sure, the ship’s making noises it’s not supposed to make, but every home has its quirks, right? All in all they’re doing just fine, thank you very much. That is, until their latest salvage operation goes explosively awry.

Desperate for money to repair their ship, Jackson begrudgingly agrees to make a delivery for the most wanted pirate in the entire solar system, otherwise known as his older brother. To no one’s surprise, the job quickly goes sideways, embroiling them in a conspiracy of extraterrestrial proportions.

Pursued by pirates, hunted by the solar navy, Jackson and his crew blast off to the darkest depths of the asteroid belt, searching for answers that will set them on a collision course with a galactic destiny far beyond any of their wildest imaginings.

Assuming, of course, their ship doesn’t fall apart before they get there.
